Demag is a manufacture of major machinery and spare parts on an international scale. Spare Parts Manuals were constructed from existing paper manuals using scanning and enhanced image techniques. This utilised the picture to item drill down methodology and included a search engine for wild card searches. Manuals were then issued on a CD-ROM. The speed for finding spare parts increased from minutes / hours to seconds with the manuals now being available to all staff rather than the one paper copy at HQ
Seabank is a gas turbine heat recovery power station providing the most efficiently generated electricity in the world. BEL reviewed their existing procedural system and upgraded the structure linking and navigation together with rationalising the content and making the new knowledge base portable for sale to other Power Stations
BEL provided Business Process Flow consultancy to their Project Document Management System. This utilised new specifically developed software that automatically indexes all documentation including email, saves all versions off documentation (of prime importance to major design and capital projects where changes and decisions are happening frequently). Security on documents allowed only designated users to be able to update documentation where the documentation can be viewed by identified staff. Time limits for actions being set with automatic warnings or relocation of documentation for action. The software name is DIAMOND (Document Indexing And Management using ON line Data). The software was developed because there was no equivalent software available for utilising existing legacy documentation with new and then automatically indexing and saving all updates. The complete management system works on the internet enabling the various project offices throughout the world to have access to the master project information, and senior management to be able to monitor the latest on line completed project milestones 24 hrs a day from any location in the world.
The Defence School of Transport provides an educational service for the Army, Royal Airforce and Royal Marines from the British Army and other International Countries Army and Government Personnel. Training in the skills of all types of driving on a wide variety of vehicles with related transport legislation, MT accounting, vehicle maintenance and repair, and running signalling centres and isolated bases, maintaining and repair of all associated equipment. BEL won the a fixed price Consultancy for providing an Intranet Document Management System, the procedures in a flow chart format both paper and electronically. This enabled the DST personnel to access all information via the Intranet on a point and click basis, finding any information they required within 5 to 30 seconds, right down to proformas which could be instantly filled out and printed or emailed. This project was achieved on time to the exact day, with the computerised system working, and ISO 9001 Registration was obtained first time. Because of the special relationship developed between the BEL team and DST we provided additional advice on IiP and have been contracted to provide further Consultancy on the Business Excellence Model measurement where our changes to site have created a jump of 100 points in one year.
BEL provided Business Process Flow consultancy to their document management system for, Land Charge Registrations, Bankruptcies, Searches, Cancellations and Office Copies in preparation for their scanning project. Following this we provided a workflow workshop for their Computer Integration Department, Computer Services Document workflow was identified and presented through an Intranet browser. This project work was requested specifically based upon the success of the previous workflow projects carried out at HM Land Registry
BEL provided Business Process Flow consultancy to their document management system for "First Registration", helping reduce the average time for registering a property from 15 days to 2 days. Because of the success of this project we were given a further two projects to workflow the Third Party and Dispositionery First Lease document management systems. Similar reductions in time for processing were approved. Following this we provided a workflow workshop for their Computer Integration Department, Computer Services Department and Operations Development Department in order to understand the document flows for future software development.
